After the 2 – 0 defeat to Brighton, senior coach Alex De La Torre gave his thoughts on the match
On the 2-0 defeat…
As far as a loss goes, I believe that there were many positives to draw from the game. To concede a penalty so early really got the team off to a poor start. However, the fight back was tremendous and very encouraging. As was the squad’s fitness and willingness to run the game out. Plenty of positives and plenty of areas we can improve on. Losing is never fun but at least I could see plenty of light at the end of the tunnel.
On Old Carey’s Performance…
Overall both Thommo and myself were reasonably pleased. I do not like to lose any game but in terms of effort, work ethic, game plan and commitment, I could not fault the players. We were nervous at the back early, lacked some cutting edge in front of goals during the period we dominated possession and perhaps ran out of attacking ideas towards the end. The boys worked very hard however and we will improve.
On the disallowed goal…
One of a number of very poor refereeing errors and may have given us a foothold in the game. However, it was not the deciding factor in the 0-2 loss. We cannot control referee’s decisions, good or bad, and as such, we must move forward.
On the performance of the debutant’s…
I normally don’t like to single out individuals. I will say however that all the debutant’s acquitted themselves very well. They all showed that they are going to be very good contributors for Old Carey in 2010.
On the balance of play…
I personal view was that we controlled parts of the game quite well but did not make the most of our possession. Given that we are still learning to play in a certain manner, it was an encouraging start and there is plenty to build on in the coming weeks. I also felt that as a squad, we ran the game out much better than Old Brighton and that was also encouraging.
On his personal battle with Old Brighton coach Harry Djumas
Didn’t really focus on what Harry was doing. I was solely focused on getting the most out of my team.
On next week’s game…
It will be a tough game but then again, most games in this league are going to be tough. I am looking for the guys to continue to improve and again give a 100% effort, as they did against Old Brighton.
