Sehon Pellew had his hands full trying to contain the Bayside captain. Pellew battled hard all game and certainly came out at least even with his opponent.

Richard Stanner then had two glorious chances to give Old Carey the early lead. On 12 minutes, Stanner was released, however he could only fire his shot from 18 yards over the bar. The best of his chances was yet to come however. Some intricate play between Andrew Mariadason and Hugh Matthews, with the later playing a perfectly waited through ball, sore Stanner put through one-on-one with the Bayside keeper. Stanner could only hit his finish at the Bayside keeper.

Old Carey then earned themselves a free kick about 45 yards from goal. Luke Udorovic, who normally delivers brilliant dead balls, left this one short. Bayside then broke from the free kick as a stream of numbers flooded forward. They managed to get to the edge of the 18, to which a develish cross was whipped in. The Bayside striker took his shot first time and sore his finish travel under Paton. Paton would have been dissapointed he didn’t save the shot.

He soon made amends though, as Bayside almost doubled their advantage. From a free kick which wad only slightly left from centre, a ball was lifted over the Old Carey defensive line to an unmarked Bayside player. Paton made amends by turning the shot onto the post in a quick reaction save.

The first half drew to a close with Old Carey down 1-0.

As the teams emerged from half time, they were greeted with a torrential downpour, which was to make conditions difficult in the second half.

Old Carey came out and attacked Bayside from the outset. Luke Udorovic whipped in quite a few balls from put wide which only just alluded the strikers. Old Carey were now in control of the middle of the park with High Matthews and Nick Mallios orchestrating attacks forward.

Clear cut chances were few and far between however.

Bayside would soon double their advantage with a goal against the run of play. A Bayside player took possession and drifted from out wide on his left across goal with only minimal pressure being applied. He then proceeded to beat Marc Arkesteijn before finishing low and hard across Paton. It proved to be a terminal blow to Old Careys challenge.

Michael Hargitay, Paul Purcell and Jonothan Roediger came on on in place of Luke Udorovic, Andrew Mariadason and Peter Henson respectively as Alex De La Torre looked to get back into the game by pushing more numbers forward.
