Match Report: Yarra Jets 3 – 2 Old Carey Ladies

April 24, 2010  |  by

First game of the woman’s season in State 3 N/W saw Old Carey travel to Fitzroy Park to take on Yarra Jets.

From the start of the game Old Carey (lead by the newly appointed Captain Louise Dana and vice captain Kim Lai) asserted their control on the match, passing the ball around nicely. Even though there were some instances where keeper Lisa Monge was put to the test, tipping a few opposition strikes over the bar, Old Carey comfortably had the greater share of possession.

Despite this, it was the Jets that broke the deadlock, taking the lead from a freak corner that found its way in to the back of the net without touching anyone on the way.

In true Old Carey spirit, heads were kept high and the effort by all girls only intensified. Not wasting any time,  after a string of good passes, Dana set up Erica Jenkins who took a first time shot to equalise and tie up the score at 1 – 1 going in to the break.

Old Carey started the second half positively, controlling the game and retaining possession of the football. The girls used the first 20 min to press Yarra and put them on the back foot.

After solid build up play Erica scored her second of the day, finishing off a nice move involving Alice Hobday and Sophie Moran.

Following a shift in momentum, the Jets gained control of the game and managed to score twice in 15 minutes to take the lead 3 – 2. Old Carey battled courageously and kept pressing but were unable to break through Yarra’s defence.

Even after a solid performance from Old Carey, Yarra Jets proved to be the better team on the day and walked away with a 3 – 2 win.
