Match Preview: Old Carey v Lyndale

April 24, 2010  |  by

Old Carey will be keen to build on their impressive 2-0 win on Saturday with their first official home match on Wilcox Field against Lyndale.

While last week’s scoreline wasn’t hugely noticeable, it was the result itself which was impressive. It was a well rounded performance with Old Carey dictating terms for much of the game. Old Carey should therefore be full of confidence, looking to get on top of the last-placed Lyndale from the get go.

However, with confidence comes a risk of complacency, and Old Carey must be mindful of not falling back into old habits. Little attention should be taken of the table, especially at this early stage of the season. Old Carey themselves proved last week that it is possible to travel away from home and pick up 3 points. They will unquestionably find themselves in a dog fight, with Lyndale desperate to pick up their first points of the season. Old Carey will need to produce the same tenacity, work ethic and composure, all while adhering to their structure, should they wish to obtain a result this weekend.

Struggling Lyndale currently find themselves in last place after falling to 5-0 and 2-0 losses to Whitehorse and newly promoted Bayside respectively. They are yet to score this season, not managing to find the net in their opening two fixtures; a stat Old Carey will be keen to continue.

After last week’s strong performance, there will be few changes to the Old Carey squad. The only expected inclusion being the return of Purcell after serving a one-match ban for his Round 1 dismissal.

In their previous encounter, played at Wilcox Field in round 14 last year, the scoreline was reflective of a tennis match, with Lyndale winning 6-4. In fact, Old Carey and Lyndale have only clashed twice in their history (pre-season aside), with Lyndale taking the maximum 6 points from the matches.  Old Carey will be looking to register their first win against Lyndale this Saturday.

The game kicks off at 3pm at Wilcox Field (Carey Sports Complex, Bulleen).
