After months of pre-season trainings, friendly games, staffing changes, and new players, the season proper commences this Saturday against Old Brighton. All the hard work of the players since way back in December has been in preparation for Round 1.
We open our 2010 campaign with a Home fixture against Old Brighton. Due to ground unavailability, the game has been moved to the Darebin International Sports Centre; an all purpose sports centre with multiple synthetic pitches.
This Saturday will be the first game in charge for new coach Alex De La Torre, following his appointment over the summer. Alex will be eager to commence his Old Carey coaching career with a win, and if his work both at training and behind the scenes is anything to go by, he has left no stone unturned in his quest to achieve this.
Along with a new coach comes a new captain; Daniel MacDonald. After winning the Players’ Player of the Year for the 2009 season, it came as no surprise to see “Macca” being handed the captains armband. This Saturday will mark the first occasion in which MacDonald will lead his team.
There are also some new faces which will make their competitive debut for Old Carey SC in Round 1. Sehon Pellew, Roy Chan, Paul Purcell and Andrew Mariadason all have a chance of making their debut this Saturday. Nick Mallios may play, but has been struggling with a chest injury he suffered in a training ground collision with goalkeeper Chris Paton. He will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness. Liam Cusack finds himself on the long term injury list after tearing his groing whilst recoving from strained ankle ligaments. Liam aside, the coaching staff have a full list from which they can select their squads.
With Round 1 little over a day away, the Old Carey Soccer Club would like to wish all Seniors and Reserves players the best of luck for their openning round fixtures and the 2010 Season.
